A woman who appeared before Galway District Court with 199 convictions left the hearing with two more on her record, bringing her total to just over 200.
Josephine Mangan, currently in custody, was on temporary release from prison when she stole tobacco and food items to the value of €26 from a city shop on November 1 last.
Judge Valerie Corcoran was told Mangan had 199 previous convictions, 92 of which were for theft. She pleaded guilty to two charges.
On January 16 last she received an eight-month prison sentence for assault. She had been on temporary release from prison for other matters the previous November when she was arrested for the thefts before the court and had been returned to prison.
Judge Corcoran imposed two concurrent one-month sentences.
