Galway take on Armagh in Duggan Park this Saturday as they look to build on their encouraging start to the Lidl NFL Division 1 campaign.
The Tribeswomen sit in third place with two wins out of three going into the contest. Galway had last weekend off while Cork handed Armagh their second defeat of the campaign last Sunday.
It's been a promising start for Daniel Moynihan's side in the league so far this season. Galway responded to their first defeat in Round 2 with a resounding victory over Kildare a fortnight ago. They are a point behind second-place Cork and three-points off unbeaten league leaders Waterford.
Galway's 3-12 to 1-7 win over Kildare provided plenty for fans to be excited about going forward. The full-forward line of Andrea Trill, Róisín Leonard, and Leanne Coen scored 3-7 in total with all three bagging a goal each.
It was Galway's first home game of the season and they gave the Tuam Stadium faithful much to shout about as Moynihan's charges charged out the blocks from the off. They built a 2-6 to 0-5 lead with goals from Trill and Coen going into the interval. Leonard's goal after half-time put the contest out of Kildare's reach.
Armagh are wounded following their Round 3 defeat to Cork and that makes them a dangerous proposition travelling to Ballinasloe this weekend. The Ulster outfit lost their opening fixture to Waterford before getting their first victory of the campaign in Round 2 away to Kildare.
Armagh fell just short to Cork in tricky conditions at Oliver Plunkett Park. It was the Orchard county who led by two points at the break, thanks to a goal on 26 minutes provided by Alana Donnelly. Aine O'Sullivan followed that goal up with a point from play to leaving the half-time score 1-3 to 0-4 in favour of Armagh.
It was a game of fine defensive play, but Cork's Rachel O’Regan netted on 48 minutes to give the Leesiders a 1-6 to 1-4 lead. Rachel Leahy added a second goal for Cork and although the home side got within a point with a free from outside the arc by Mallon, Cork got the job done to run out two-point victors.
Galway will be seeking to continue their early season momentum and attacking prowess this weekend. Armagh's defensive resilience will make it difficult for them.
Throw-in is 2.30pm at Duggan Park this Saturday.
