Local TD and Minister for Education and Youth, Hildegarde Naughton TD, yesterday approved a significant tranche of new school projects for Galway and substantial extensions to existing Galway schools.

“Between 2020 and 2025, the Department of Education has provided €250.85 million in capital funding for Galway schools. Over this period, a total of 88 schools have been upgraded either through provision of a new school building, a large-scale extension or provision of modular accommodation. There are currently 17 school projects in Galway under construction,” the Minister said.

The Schools she has approved this week for significant investment are Scoil Naisiunta Seosamh Naofa, Carrabane; Colaiste Cholmcille, Inverin; Gaelscoil Riada, Athenry; Colaise an Eachraidh, Athenry; Clifden Community School; St Joseph’s Special School; Scoil Mhguire, Moycullen; Scoila an Chroi Naofa, Ballinasloe; Archbishop McHale College, Tuam; SN Na Coille Glaise in Mountbellew.

“Today is not the end of the process. While this investment is positive, I am aware that more needs to be done and today’s announcement is part of a 5-year programme of school building in Galway and nationally,” Minister Naughton said.
