What better way to celebrate their reopening for the season than by celebrating their namesake! On Saturday January 31, Brigit’s Garden opens its doors for the season, welcoming visitors again after a winter rest. Brigit celebrations kick off straight away on the first evening with Celebrating Brigit’s Eve, an opportunity to share some of the rich traditions associated with Brigit and the Celtic festival of Imbolc. It will be an uplifting evening of songs, stories and rituals – see brigitsgarden.ie for tickets.
Their weekly meditation by Zoom resumes on Sunday February 1, with a special Brigit Meditation, drawing on myths and stories surrounding the saint and goddess. All are welcome to attend, and no previous experience is necessary. Attendance is free but registration is required.
Bank Holiday Monday February 2 brings a favourite annual event with Free Brigit’s Cross-making workshops. These hands-on sessions invite people of all ages to reconnect with Ireland’s seasonal traditions by crafting a Brigit’s Cross or a Brídeog (Brigit doll ) out of rushes. Participants will take their creation home, continuing a custom that has been passed down through generations as a symbol of protection, renewal, and hope. No booking necessary, all materials provided – just come on the day and join in. Identical workshops will take place at 2pm and 3pm, just arrive for whichever time suits you.
Stay to enjoy a coffee, treat or lunch in their Garden Café, open over the Bank Holiday weekend, and all an easy drive from Galway City. For more information on all Brigit events and opening times, see their website: brigitsgarden.ie/brigit
