Strict curfew for man found with €60,000 drug haul

A man pleading guilty to possession for sale or supply of drugs to the value of €60,000 was told he would either have to abide by very stringent curfew conditions or be remanded in custody until his sentencing date.

Jason Moylan, 84 Costa na Mara, Oranmore pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis to the value of €52,000 and ketamine valued at €8,000 for the purpose of sale or supply, when he came before Judge Brian O’Callaghan at Galway Circuit Criminal Court.

The Court heard that Gardaí searched a premises at Clooneean, Corrandulla on June 16, 2023 and found the drugs which were in possession by the defendant.

Moylan’s defence pleaded that he is 35, the father of four children and his partner is pregnant with twins. He is working and has no previous convictions.

Judge O’Callaghan said it was normal when such an amount of drugs was involved to remand a defendant pleading guilty in custody until a date was set for sentencing. If he was not to do so, he would be imposing particularly strict curfew and other conditions.

The conditions imposed were set out as: to reside at his partner’s address in Oranmore, observe a nightly curfew between 10pm and 7am, sign on once a week at Millstreet Garda Station and enter a €500 bond to be of good behaviour.
