Independent Councillor Terry O’Flaherty has confirmed that the engineer in the traffic management section of Galway City Council took her representations on board to fix the flashing beacons outside Scoil Chaitriona in Renmore Avenue that have been out of order for several months.
Water ingress had been causing the digital timer unit to burn out, and the company looking after the problem replaced the timer with a more waterproof unit in a separate waterproof box which is attached to the back of the sign.
“The flashing lights have been out of order for some time now and it’s imperative that they are now working on this heavily trafficked roadway, for the safety of so many adults and children,” Cllr O’Flaherty said.
“Hopefully, this belt and braces approach will prevent the issue reoccurring. The timers came from Dublin and the company, Swarco, commenced the installation this week.”
She thanked the City Council Engineer, for taking on board her representations on board to have the flashing beacons restored to working condition.
