WHEN a Galway address was searched by Gardaí they found cocaine valued at €6,466 in a bedroom, along with digital weighting scales, a blender and plastic bags. In addition they discovered €8,050 in cash.
This was the scenario outlined before Judge Adrian Harris at Galway District Court on Monday. He refused jurisdiction, owing to the amounts involved and the seriousness of the charges, and ordered a Book of Evidence be prepared so the case can be heard in the Circuit Court.
The couple involved were remanded until March for the Gardaí to prepare the Book of Evidence.
In a separate case, a defendant who came to the attention of Gardaí was searched and found to be in possession of cocaine valued at €210, ketamine valued at €330 and €360 in cash. Judge Harris accepted jurisdiction in this case.
In another case in which a defendant is alleged to have been found in possession of cannabis valued at €1,950 at his home when Gardaí searched it, the Judge also accepted jurisdiction. These cases were adjourned for hearing at a later date.
