TOBIN marks the opening of Dexcom Stadium

The opening of Dexcom Stadium represents a major milestone for Connacht Rugby and Galway city, and for TOBIN, it is a project of exceptional professional and local significance.

Situated close to their head office, the stadium’s transformation has been witnessed first-hand by the team and reflects TOBIN’s strong connection to the city, its sporting community, and its continued social and economic development.

From the outset, TOBIN has played a central role in shaping and delivering this landmark development. Working in close partnership with Connacht Rugby and the wider project team, they supported the project from initial feasibility and planning through to completion and handover. Their involvement drew on decades of experience delivering complex sports and public infrastructure projects across Ireland, helping to ensure a robust, future-focused outcome that will not only support elite sport but also act as a catalyst for wider urban, community, and economic benefit across the city.

TOBIN’s multidisciplinary input spanned all phases of the redevelopment and included Project Management, PSDP and Assigned Certifier roles, Civil and Structural Engineering Design, Sports Pitch Specialist Design, Quantity Surveying services during Phase 1, and comprehensive Technical Advisory Services. This breadth of expertise allowed TOBIN to provide continuity, leadership, and technical assurance throughout the evolution of the stadium.

Key milestones marked the steady transformation of the former Sportsground into a modern, state-of-the-art facility. These included the delivery of the 4G pitch and floodlighting in 2022, the successful handover of the High Performance Centre, and most recently the completion of the North Stand, whose external façade now defines the stadium’s presence and character.

While the stadium will be officially opened this weekend, Dexcom Stadium already stands as a significant enhancement to Galway’s sporting and event infrastructure. The redevelopment of the new North Stand (Clan Stand ) accommodating around 6,500 supporters, strengthens Galway’s ability to host major sporting occasions and attract increased visitor activity. This progress coincides with a renewed sense of ambition at Connacht Rugby, reflected in record season ticket sales and the appointment of a high-profile new head coach.

The delivery of Dexcom Stadium is a testament to collaboration, expertise, and long-term commitment. TOBIN is proud to have played a pivotal role on a project that will support Connacht Rugby and deliver lasting social, sporting, and economic benefits for Galway city for generations to come.
