Chef pleads guilty to drugs for sale or supply

A chef who pleaded guilty of possession of drugs for sale or supply before Judge Brian O’Callaghan at the Circuit Court had curfew conditions imposed tailored around his shift work at a Galway restaurant.

Cian Burke pleaded guilty to having cocaine, MDMA and ketamine for sale or supply at an address in Roscam on February 15 last.

The January 20 sitting of Galway Circuit Criminal Court heard that Gardaí conducted a search of a premises in Roscam and discovered illegal drugs to the value of €9,500 in total.

His defence pleaded that Burke (29 ) had no previous convictions and was holding the drugs for a third party. He was pleading guilty at the first opportunity.

Judge O’Callaghan was told the defendant worked as a chef when curfew conditions were being considered. He worked different shifts on different days of the week and an accommodation was reached whereby Burke would observe curfew conditions when he was not required to be at his place of employment.

He was ordered to sign-on each Monday at Galway Garda Station and enter a bond to be of good behaviour.

The Judge ordered a Probation report and fixed October 29 next as his sentencing date.
