National Slow Down Day in Ireland

This is a 24-hour period of nationwide speed enforcement by An Garda Siochana with the Road Safety Authority(RSA ) to cut speeding, especially with increased Christmas Traffic.

The initiative aims to raise awareness, reduce speed related collisions, and remind drivers that excessive speed is dangerous for everyone on the road. There will be high-visibility policing and speed checks carried out across the country today within the 24 hr period.

The Christmas and New Year break should be a time of joy, not loss. We are urging everyone, if you are drinking, or using drugs, don’t drive - ever. Plan your journey, use alternative transport and look out for one another.

Together we can prevent tragedy on our roads this holiday period.

Secure property

If people are away from their homes during the holiday period, we urge them to secure their property, check doors and window and ensure that they are locked.

If you know of anyone who resides alone, please check on them and if there is any concern for anyone, please contact your local Garda Station. We are happy to check in on anyone.
