OAP fell over 'doing a bit of a dance' on Shop Street

A homeless man who was found by Gardaí drunk and with a gash to his forehead told the local Court that he thought he fell over while “doing a bit of a dance.”

Garda Mick Hehir told Judge John King that when Gardaí arrived, the defendant, Michael Kincade of Ballymore, Westmeath, was bleeding and incapable of standing. An ambulance was called and the Gardaí had to help the paramedics to get him into it.

Kincade said he thought he was doing a bit of a dance and tried to tie his lace at the same time and fell over. All he could remember was waking up in Merlin Park at 6am the following day.

The defendant told the Court he was not drinking now and was in AA. His home had burned down and he was under a lot of stress.

He admitted that he had another case coming up elsewhere as he’d “fallen out with a Guard.” He was 74 and his only income was his old age pension. He was pleading guilty even though he couldn’t remember anything because he wanted to get it out of the way. Judge King fined him €100.
