A young man who, it is alleged, was found with cannabis to the value of €4,460 by gardaí must provide a statement of means detailing his income before he will be considered for free legal aid.
The defendant is also charged with being in possession of a knuckle-duster.
He came before Judge John Brennan at Galway District Court. The judge accepted jurisdiction of the case, commenting that the amount involved meant it “just about” came under the District Court threshold.
The defendant’s barrister asked the judge to grant his client legal aid, but Judge Brennan said that before he would consider the application a statement of means would have to be furnished. The case was adjourned.
