A major two-day housing conference is taking place in Galway today Thursday, December 10 and Friday, December 11.
Midlands-North-West MEP Ciaran Mullooly is the Vice-Chair of the European Parliament’s Housing Committee (HOUS ) and he will host the conference which brings together first-time buyers, community voices, housing specialists and industry experts from across Ireland and Europe.
On Thursday, a free housing information evening titled ‘Galway Housing Unlocked: Stories, Supports and Solutions’ will be held at Westside Community Centre from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. It is designed to help individuals and families who are trying to secure a home in one of Ireland’s most pressured housing markets. It will offer clear, practical guidance for first-time buyers in Galway and surrounding areas.
Registration for Thursday’s Public information event is free via Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.ie/e/galway-housing-unlocked-stories-supports-solutions-tickets-1976696713080.
Friday’s multi-disciplinary ‘Housing Action Exchange’ takes place from 9am to 2pm in Knocknacarra Community Centre. It will bring together planners, developers, off-site construction specialists, estate agents, local authorities, frontline workers, homelessness organisations and academic researchers. The goal is to examine immediate, practical solutions to Galway’s urgent housing needs.
The central theme of the day will be “What does emergency planning look like?”, exploring how bottlenecks can be removed to accelerate delivery – similar to the rapid building achieved during the Covid-19 period, when major hospital extensions that normally required years were completed in weeks under emergency conditions.
Both events are free and open to the public.
