A man with an address in Renmore was ordered to observe strict bail conditions as he awaits a hearing of alleged harassment charges, including staying away from College Road and having no contact with his alleged victims.
Jerard Nestor, 57 Dun na Mara, Renmore is facing charges of harassment allegedly carried out between 2022 and 2025. He was remanded on bail until the February 11 sitting of the court on strict conditions agreed between the Gardaí and Judge John Brennan at Galway District Court.
Gardaí asked Judge John Brennan to impose a curfew on Nestor but his counsel objected to this, arguing that Nestor was in his sixties and worked. The judge asked if the alleged offences occurred during the hours of darkness and was informed by a Garda witness that some had.
The judge said he was concerned that the alleged harassment might be ongoing, going by the dates provided to the Court, but couldn’t see the justification for imposing a curfew. He also agreed with the defence that signing-on in a Garda station each Monday and Thursday was not necessary.
The first condition agreed on is that he stays away entirely from College Road in the city.
The second is that he has no contact by any means whatsoever, including electronically, with the alleged victims.
He must also sign on each Sunday between 9am and 9pm at Mill Street Garda Station. In addition he must be contactable by Gardaí by phone 24 hours a day and must reside at 57 Ard na Mara, Renmore.
