Galway City East Councillor Alan Cheevers has welcomed the opening of the upgraded skateboard facility at Doughiska Park.
The Fianna Fáil representative said the new €400,00 skate park is the best in the region, and should attract enthusiasts to Doughiska.
“The skate park will not only serve the local area, but will also be available to anyone across the city who wishes to use it,” he said.
In August, Browne Brothers Site Services, a Limerick-based playground specialist, signed a three-month contract with Galway City Council for the new park, which was delivered on time. French outfit Vulcano Skate Parks was involved in the design.
Cheevers thanked former Minister for state for Sport, Thomas Byrne, for allocating more than €150,000 towards the project in Capital Sports Funding .
He also acknowledged the Recreation and Amenities Team at Galway City Council for their hard work and dedication in bringing the skate park to completion.
The park was financed under Galway City Council’s €2.8 million Community Sport Facilities Fund announced in 2024.
