Get involved with the upcoming National Volunteering Strategy consultation workshops

Community groups and sports clubs in Galway are being asked to take part in upcoming workshops that will inform the development of a new National Volunteering Strategy.

Galway Volunteer Centre is leading the consultation, and workshops will take place for city and county groups. The National Volunteering Strategy is being developed by the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht.

These workshops, which will take place in the City on Tuesday, September 30, and the County on Tuesday, October 7, are being held to ensure the new strategy reflects real experiences and priorities. Those in groups with responsibility for recruiting, supporting, and managing volunteers are especially welcome to the workshops.

The workshops will give an opportunity for participants to share their experience in working with volunteers and highlight the challenges and successes. This will inform the priorities for a new national strategy, which will build on the work of the previous strategy, which comes to an end this year.

Since 2006, Galway Volunteer Centre has been supporting members of the public to find suitable volunteer roles in Galway City and County through a list of volunteer opportunities, updated daily, advertised on behalf of non-profits and community organisations in Galway.

Galway Volunteer Centre also provides Garda Vetting and runs the Community Volunteers and Galway Street Ambassadors programmes.

The Galway Volunteer Centre team meets with people to help them choose volunteer roles that match their interests and availability. “We are always amazed by the amount of people who come to us with a desire to do something that helps others, and we provide a confidential service that matches people with a role they will enjoy that benefits others at the same time,” said Donncha.
