Met Éireann has issued a High Tide Advisory Warning, which will remain in place until 11pm on Thursday 11 September, prompting the closure of Toft Car Park in Salthill.

Galway City Council is advising the public to take extra care near coastal areas over the coming days, as there is a significant risk of wave overtopping.

Met Éireann has advised that Highest Astronomical Tide levels are forecast to be approached or exceeded along all coasts. This is due to a combination of forecasted storm surge, tidal prediction and wave action.

Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution when parking near coastal areas. Toft Car Park, which regularly floods during overtopping events, has been closed until the advisory has passed - however motorists can can access the park to remove vehicles currently parked there.
