The BYD Yangwang has set a new global electric vehicle top-speed record of 472.41km/h.

The speed was achieved by Yangwang’s latest U9 Track Edition supercar at the ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg test track in Germany. The feat makes it the world's fastest EV.

The Yangwang U9 Track Edition uses the world's first quad-motor system. The system features 30,000rpm high-performance motors which delivers a peak power of 555kw per motor. It also delivers a combined system output of almost 3,000hp. This gives the vehicle a power-to-weight ratio of 1,200 hp per tonne.

The record was set by German professional driver Marc Basseng, who was behind the wheel for the previous global EV speed record of 391km/h in 2024.
