Preserving summer and promoting health at Ballybane Community Hub

The Ballybane Community Hub is hosting two exciting and informative events this August, inviting the local community to come together for hands-on learning and free health support.

On Wednesday, August 21 at 7:00 PM, join local chef Maria McNeela for The Simple Art of Preserving Summer, a workshop on making blackberry jam and tomato relish.

Though vastly different in flavour, these two seasonal favourites share a common tradition of preserving the harvest. Blackberry jam is sweet and dark, crafted from late-summer berries, while tomato relish offers a tangy, savoury taste made with vine-ripened tomatoes. Maria will guide attendees through the entire process, offering tips, techniques, and a celebration of the age-old kitchen art of preservation.

All are welcome, and no prior experience is needed. The event takes place in the Ballybane Community Hub, with parking available adjacent to Ballybane Library.

In advance of the workshop, the Hub is also offering a free blood pressure screening evening on Monday, August 19th, from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM, at the same location (30 Béal Srutha, H91 TW27 ). Attendees will have the opportunity to get their blood pressure checked and learn about the latest treatments and procedures for managing hypertension. No appointments are necessary.

Both events are open to all members of the public. For more information, contact Donal at 087 199 4360.
