Mazda has confirmed the third generation their best-selling CX5 SUV set to arrive in Ireland in early next year.
With pricing starting from €39,965, the new CX-5 retains the shape of its predecessor but gets a more responsive petrol hybrid engine along with built-in Google technology. The CX5 will be offered in four grades – Prime-Line, Centre-Line, Exclusive-Line, and Homura – each with distinct interior finishes and equipment.
Underneath the bonnet, the new CX-5 is powered by a 2.5-litre e-Skyactiv G 141ps petrol engine, paired with 24V Mazda M Hybrid technology with a brake-by-wire system, replacing the previous 2.0-litre base unit. Mazda says this engine delivers improved torque for quicker response, seamless acceleration, and better driving comfort. Producing 141ps (104kW ) and 238Nm of torque, the front-wheel drive variant accelerates from 0-100km/h in 10.5 seconds.
Available in FWD and AWD, the new CX-5 benefits from chassis and suspension updates, providing enhanced ride comfort and road handling. With a towing capacity of up to 2,000kg, the latest CX-5 is more capable than ever. Equipped with a comprehensive suite of updated ADAS features, the new CX-5 targets a Euro NCAP five-star safety rating.
Inside, the CX-5 gets a new 12.9- or 15.6-inch centre display (depending on trim ) which delivers “smartphone-style interaction with customisable menus”, meaning physical buttons and the central rotary have been removed. Google built-in has been introduced for the first time in a Mazda, providing access to Google Gemini AI assistant, as well as Google Maps for real-time navigation information and Google Play to allow for the addition of more apps. Elsewhere in the interior is a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and streamlined steering wheel controls. Higher grades also include a 12-speaker Bose sound system.
Outside, Mazda has extended the wheelbase of the CX-5 to enhance road presence, stability and interior and boot space, increasing overall practicality for daily use. Boot capacity has been increased by 61-litres over the outgoing CX-5 to 583-litres, adding a 40:20:40 split-folding rear bench for extra versatility.
