Clean Coasts and Galway Atlantaquaria are thrilled to host the very first Clean Coasts Observer workshop at Grattan Beach, bringing the National Biodiversity Data Centre’s Explore Your Shore! Project to life in Galway. This exciting new event invites volunteers to step into the role of citizen scientists and become passionate protectors of our local marine environment.

This hands-on workshop will dive into key themes like Ocean Literacy, Marine Biodiversity, and environmental stewardship through the Clean Coasts Programme. Participants will also gain practical skills in species identification, nature photography, and data collection—all while helping to protect and preserve our coastline.

Garry Kendellen of Galway Atlantaquaria shares his enthusiasm: “Even after two decades exploring Grattan’s tidal pools, the biodiversity here continues to surprise and inspire us. Every visit reveals something new. That is why we are so passionate about Explore Your Shore!, and we hope this event sparks a new wave of local ocean stewards.”

Liane Costello of Clean Coasts adds: “The Clean Coasts Observer and Galway Atlantaquaria Explore Your Shore! Workshop is a fantastic opportunity to connect with the vital coastal habitats of Galway Bay. Care and understanding for our local nature is key to empowering collective action and community guardianship.”
