ALDI’s Clifden store will reopen on July 3, after being closed for nearly six months due to damage caused by Storm Éowyn. Store Manager, Barbara Hehir tells us a bit about herself, her career with ALDI, and what makes the Clifden store’s reopening so special.
“What I’ve missed most while the store has been closed is definitely our team. Having the store back in operation means a lot to the local community in Clifden,” she said.
The store has always been more than just a place to shop - it’s a familiar, welcoming space where people connect. Reopening brings a real sense of positivity back to the town, and we’re proud to be part of that. We’ll also be hiring new team members, and we’ve added some exciting new features, including a bakery and self-service checkouts - bringing even more convenience for our customers.
Barbara has worked for ALDI for ten years, firstly as an Assistant Manager in the Headford Road store and then in Knocknacarra, before coming to Clifden, where she became Store Manager in January 2022. “Working for ALDI is fantastic for anyone who enjoys interacting with members of the public and working with a great team of store colleagues. Our team in Clifden is like a little family, and it hasn’t been the same without everyone together while the store has been closed. I can’t wait to have us all back under one (intact! ) roof again,” she added.
Barbara was born and reared in Galway and lives in Connemara with her husband Cathal and and children Aodán and Abí.
“One of my greatest passions is traveling, I love exploring new places and creating meaningful experiences. I’m also an avid skier and enjoy snorkelling and diving whenever I get the chance. This year has been particularly special as we took our kids skiing for the first time, and to our delight, they turned out to be absolute naturals on the slopes,” she added.
ALDI Clifden opens on Thursday, July 3. Opening hours are Mon to Sat: 08:00 – 22:00 and Sun: 09:00 – 21:00
