He said road funding must be a priority for the current Fianna Fáil-Fine Gael coalition government, and condemned previous promises.

“Works and delivery is the only promise people should make to the voter, not spin and spoof and no delivery,” he said.

“I’m calling on those in power at national and local level to urgently seek funding for local roads in Galway city. Some local roads in our community are at breaking point, and [some] roads in particular are becoming third world roads,” he said.

“The community in Castlegar has been forgotten about, with two roads serving the local area both now in dire needs of resurfacing.”

The Fine Gael politician said he has taken representations from residents, and criticised his party’s coalition partner. “Fianna Fáil – in particular locally – called for a €70 million investment in Galway roads on May 2, 2024 and not a cent has been delivered [for] road resurfacing in Castlegar,” he said.

“The road from Ballindooley towards the Tuam Road on both the Castlegar roads is absolutely shocking,” he added. “These people pay their LPT and are forgotten about,” he said, warning that “accidents waiting to happen”.
