Galway gears up for Classic Fest this Sunday

Annual celebration of vintage vehicles to raise funds for local charities

Galway Racecourse will be filled with the sight and sound of up to 1,000 vintage and classic cars, trucks, tractors, motorcycles, steam engines and much more this Sunday when Classic Fest returns to the venue better known for horsepower of a different kind.

Classic Fest, now in its fourth year, is fast becoming Ireland largest one day event for enthusiasts of classic and vintage vehicles with vehicles traveling from the 32 counties. More than 20 clubs will head to the Galway venue to promote and display the make and model they are passionate about. Several hundred vehicles not attached to a club will also attend. Well over 100 years of motoring will be on display, with the oldest car entered to date a 1904 Ford Model T. Fords will also take centre stage as a special display of Mk2 Escorts will be put on to celebrate 50 years since the Mk2 was launched with a target of 50 cars in the display.

Also on display will be a Jordan F1 car in memory of the late Eddie Jordan who made his way to the pinnacle of motorsport, F1. There will also be a dedicated display for original Galway registered vehicles. Once again many local transport companies will have their show trucks on display, and Tribes MCC will have some amazing vintage classic and more modern motorcycles on display. Another new addition for this year will be the Collectors Auction that will take place at the show, all cars in the auction will be on display all day and you can register to bid onsite, for more details on the auction check out www.munsterauctions.com

It’s not all cars either - Classic Fest has built on its family fun and offers an enjoyable day out for all, with lots of free children’s entertainment including face painting, balloon making and games, a food court and the onsite Claddagh restaurant will cater for every palate. On stage there will be live music all day from local bands The Crux and The Gamblers. The Garda Road Policing unit will be in attendance with their Golf R car, Drumadore School of Drumming will be onsite for the young wannabe musicians, and stilt walkers will be towering above the crowd. There will be many trade stands of interest to all where you could by everything from a carburettor from a Ford Escort to a nice pot of aloe vera cream and everything in between.

Last year Classic Fest raised over €15,000 for charity and once again this year the show will be supporting Bumbleance, Galway Sick Kids Foundation, Claddagh Watch, Blood Bike West and Galway Civil Defence with representatives of these organisations on site on the day so be sure to show them your support. Tickets are available online at www.irishvintagescene.ie or at the gate on the day, gates are open 11.30am to 4pm.
