Toyota unveils new RAV4

Toyota has revealed details and images of the new sixth-generation RAV4, the brand's best-selling model in 2024.

New battery

The new RAV4 will be available in Europe exclusively as plug-in hybrid or full hybrid. The former will be fitted with Toyota’s newly developed 22.7kWh lithium-ion battery, enabling a claimed all-electric range of up to 100 km.

Toyota’s Battery Extended Care Program covers the battery each year for up to 15 years of vehicle age or up to one million kilometres driven, subject to an annual service within the Toyota network.

According to Toyota, the new RAV4 has a new 11kW AC charger which is twice as fast as the previous version, fully charging the battery in around three hours. Using a DC 50kW onboard charger, Toyota claims the new RAV4 can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in half an hour.

The new battery pack combines with an improved front motor – which now delivers 150kW to achieve a 0-100km/h sprint time of 6.1 seconds. A front-wheel-drive (FWD ) configuration is also introduced on a plug-in hybrid RAV4 for the first time.

Styling

Toyota describes the new RAV4's exterior styling as robust, saying its strong front design and dynamic silhouette express robust off-road credentials, whilst retaining similar dimensions to its predecessor.

Inside, a redesigned cabin features Toyota's latest 12.9-inch multimedia system for the first time. Toyota says the digital cockpit experience is enhanced by a responsive and precise voice assistant that can handle navigation, media, in-car temperature, and vehicle control.

The brand's new Arene software development platform is also being introduced via the next RAV4. This powers Toyota’s most up-to-date T-Mate system and its safety technologies, including front cross traffic alert and blind spot monitor, which are introduced for the very first time on a RAV4.

Also included are a new and more advanced lane change assist, and an upgraded pre-collision system which expands head-on collision detection and improving recognition of obstacles, bicycles and motorbikes.

GR Sport Model

The new RAV4 will also be available in the guise of a GR Sport Model. Specs here include a 20mm wider tread combined with a high-performance damper design, strengthened rear suspension brace and dedicated retuning of the suspension and power steering. Lightweight 20-inch black alloy wheels also contribute to optimised air flow.

The new, sixth-generation Toyota RAV4 is scheduled to arrive in Ireland in 2026.
