The promotion and delivery of the European Sheep Shearing and Wool-handling Championships in Mountbellew this June bank holiday weekend has been boosted by a funding boost of €130,000 from LEADER.
The funding to the Mountbellew Social Development Co-op Society will focus on promoting and delivering the event, which is set to take place from May 30th to June 1st. After the success of last year’s festival, the committee hopes to see an increase in attendance which will leave a positive economic and culture impact on Mountbellew and its surrounding areas.
Speaking on behalf of the Festival Committee, Chairperson Michael Cunniffe said “We’re delighted to receive this support and Shearfest 2025 is going to be a roaring success. In addition to marketing, this approval will address the event’s key logistical needs. Funding will be used for all the essential equipment, along with other supplies and services. There will also be outstanding entertainment on show which will further enhance the atmosphere.”
The organisers of the event also provide a range of supports for the local people and area, most recently to the playground along with the opening of a Mountbellew office.
Steve Dolan CEO of GRD expressed how grateful they are for the support from the Mountbellew community and organisers are determined to demonstrate their commitment to the town.
