34 patients on trolleys in Galway’s hospitals

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO ) Trolley Watch has released their trolley figures as part of an ongoing daily campaign to review patient and staff care within Ireland’s hospitals.

Across the country, 694 admitted patients are currently waiting on beds, with 457 patients waiting within the emergency departments, and 237 are in wards elsewhere in the hospitals. Four of these patients are under 16 years of age.

In the University Hospital Galway, 30 patients were on trolleys in the emergency department, while four were elsewhere in the wards, totalling 34 patients on trolleys within the hospital grounds.

In Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe, there were four patients on trolleys in the emergency department, while three were elsewhere in the wards, totalling seven patients on trolleys within the hospital grounds.

The INMO is determined to make safe staffing happen in Irish healthcare. They campaign for the full implementation of the Framework for Safe Staffing and Skills Mix in Nursing, and the National Maternity Strategy, in order to ensure the best possible care in their facilities and the best possible working conditions for their members.
