A young Galway farmer will feature in the new series of Saol na Feirme when the popular programme returns to RTÉ One next week.
The six part Irish language series explores the lives of seven Irish farming families as they try to navigate the unpredictable challenges of the past 12 months. Set against the backdrops of Armagh, Antrim, Clare, Galway, Laois, and Roscommon, the series delves deep into the lives of farmers managing tillage, dairy, beef, sheep, and vegetable businesses.
Among those who feature in the series is Galway farmer Dara Killeen. Dara is a forward-thinking dairy farmer in Eyrecourt, Co. Galway, managing 160 cows. Originally running a beef and sheep farm, he switched to dairy in 2019. By embracing technology, he balances farm work with raising his two young children. Committed to the future, he makes long-term investments that better the farm for when his children take over.
Another farmer from the lowlands of Roscommon also features in the series. Sheep farmer Matty Carroll tends to 120 ewes. He has a deep respect for tradition and the land, which was passed down from his father and grand uncle. A proud member of the Galway Wool Co-Op, he is passionate about preserving the value of wool, ensuring nothing goes to waste. Keeping heritage alive, he also raises a few Galway sheep, a rare native breed.
The programme will be broadcast RTÉ One and RTÉ Player from Monday 24th February at 8.30pm.
