Established in 1972, Maree Basketball club is currently the largest and most successful basketball club in Galway, going from strength-to-strength over the past half a century with a very active membership across all age groups from Maree, Oranmore and the surrounding areas.

The club works closely with Calasanctius College, which has helped establish the school's status as one of the top 'basketball schools' in the country, being named the Irish Basketball School of the Year in 2023.

Along with school and club activity the club has also spearhead the parish community basketball effort, with our coaches and players making up the three Oranmore/Maree teams; U13 girls, U13 boys and U16 boys. The U16 boys will represent Connacht at the National Finals in Gormanston this weekend.

Maree BC's Super League Team made history in 2023, by being the first team from Galway to win the Men's Super League National Cup, and reach the Super league final. This year they topped their conference and reached the semi-final of the Super league playoffs.

A number of our club players have been involved in international squads and teams over the years, most recently Oranmore girl, Cara Cormican, lined out for Ireland in the Four Nations competition. Cara was honoured by the Galway Area Basketball Board in their recent awards ceremony, along with Aisling Jordan, Kate Burke and Jessica Ross who are on the U17 Irish Development squad. Club stalwart, Mary Rockall, was inducted into the Galway Area Basketball Board (GABB ) Hall of Fame, as an acknowledgement for her vast contribution to basketball in the parish, and in Galway.

Kate Burke, Jessica Ross, Maree club stalwart, Mary Rockall, Cara Cormican and Aisling Jordan were all honoured at the recent Galway Area Basketball Board awards ceremony.

The club runs a very popular academy every Saturday morning from September to April, for boys and girls under 10 of age. Other age groups train throughout the week in Maree Community Centre and Calasanctius College.

The club's success is down to the many parents and volunteers from Maree and Oranmore who coach, manage and support our club and teams. We thank our generous community and business sponsors for their continuous support in the ongoing success of Maree Basketball Club.
