Renmore multi-use games area could be completed by early next year, says Crowe

Cllr Michael Crowe this week confirmed the timelines for the various stages and completion of the new all-weather facility to be built at the back of the community centre on Renmore Avenue.

He said that Renmore Soccer Club have been working on this for some time. We brought this idea to Galway City Council a number of years back and thankfully they saw the merit in it. Some funding has already been secured through a grant from the Sports Capital Grants a couple of years back. That money is banked. Another application for further funding for this facility was submitted in the most recent round of that grant and we are awaiting a decision on this. We hope to receive news on it in the coming weeks.’

Cllr Crowe stated that confirmation of the timelines came following a recent meeting between Renmore Soccer Club committee members and officials in Galway City Council.

“The timelines are obviously subject to the usual caveats that certain matters such as planning may take longer than we would like. It was agreed at this meeting that a planning application for the Renmore Masterplan which includes the all-weather would be lodged later this year.

“That said, I am confident that barring something unusual arising in the planning, completion of the all-weather should be reached by Q4 of next year or Q1 of 2026.’ Cllr Crowe stated.

At the meeting, various issues around the delay of commencement of the Renmore MUGA were discussed. It was acknowledged and agreed that the Renmore MUGA was brought to the local authority by Renmore Soccer Club long before any Masterplan for the area was in thought. It was further accepted that this project had secured funding which was banked.

There were various other matters discussed but the most pertinent points agreed and signed off on were the timelines.

Cllr Crowe further stated, ‘Along with our club, Scoil Chaitríona which is next door to our club are also in dire need for this facility. The students there are very limited for space and this facility will greatly enhance their play time experience and I believe it is as important to the school as our club.

“I will continue to work hard to ensure the timelines are stuck to and we see completion by the timelines agreed,” he said
