Shayne Bolton signs on for Connacht

Connacht’s Shayne Bolton is remaining at the Sportsground for another two seasons.

The 23-year-old South African has penned a new contract this week which is good news for the club in their quest for Champions Cup rugby qualification.

Having been signed by former coach Andy Friend, the Pretoria-born back is now gaining a reputation since making his debut in midfield against the Ospreys in November 2021.

But this season has been something of a breakthrough for the Irish qualified player, who now has 11 games under his belt.

His powerful ball carrying skills and versatility have helped him bag two tries since Christmas in his six starts.

Connacht head coach Pete Wilkins believes there is more to come from Bolton.

“We’re delighted with the progress Shayne has made this season, and he is rightly establishing himself in the team as a fast and powerful option on the wing.

“I am excited about his potential for further development over the next two years. He is another great example of the type of player our supporters are so excited to watch and get behind.”
