Excellent day at O’Donnellan & Joyce national live stream auction with €2.5 million sold under the hammer

O’Donnellan & Joyce, a leading expert both locally and nationally for selling properties by auction, reported a tremendous day for both buyers and sellers at its recent live stream auction.

The auction on Friday last saw 14 properties throughout Ireland from Galway to Donegal to Dublin, including in Clare, Limerick and Meath, all going under the auction hammer and attracting not only local but also national and international interest.

The live stream auction was conducted in the office of O’Donnellan & Joyce, which was transformed into a large auction studio by Brandt International where the auction was conducted live by leading auctioneer Colm O’Donnellan, and streamed internationally where people can bid either over the phone or online while also watching the auction live from the comfort of their own home.

Lot 1 – No 9 Woodquay, Galway

Lot 1 presented a ground floor retail unit along with a one bedroom apartment overhead which requires total upgrading and renovating. Situated in a prime location in Galway city centre, the unit faces directly onto Woodquay which houses some of Galway city’s oldest establishments such as neighbouring public houses Barr An Chaladh, Hughes' Bar and well known McSwiggan's Restaurant. Eight individual bidders chased the property intensely in increments of €5,000. With the opening bid of €170,000, which was the reserve price, the price rose in a period of five minutes and was eventually sold at €285,000.

Lot 2 – Former Garda station, Bunbeg, Co Donegal

This former Garda station is just strolling distance from the coastal village of Bunbeg, in the Donegal Gaeltacht and within the district of Gweedore on the Wild Atlantic Way. Built in the 1970s, the property features an office building comprising an entrance area, two offices, a store, wc/shower and a kitchen. O’Donnellan and Joyce received instructions from the OPW to sell the property. Twenty six different parties registered their interest from around the country and overseas. Bidding opened at €30,000 and after a frantic period of bidding it was eventually sold at €85,000.

Lot 3 – Filling station, Tuamgraney, Scariff, Co Clare

Lot 3 was a prominent filling station and convenience store extending to 811 square metres with a substantial forecourt. The property was sold with the benefit of vacant possession and fronting onto the R352 within the village of Tuamgraney. Internally, the property benefits from a large open plan retail area, deli/food preparation facilities and ancillary storage areas. Externally, there are four fuel stations under a modern canopy along with a large rear forecourt area. Six registered bidders competed to acquire the property, it was placed on the market at its reserve price of €600,000, and bidding went in increments of €10,000 until it was eventually sold by auctioneer Colm O’Donnellan for €820,000.

Lot 4 – No 104 Griffin Hall, Glandore Road, Dublin

No 104 Griffith Hall is a bright, one bedroom, first floor apartment situated in the mature and much sought-after gated development of Griffith Hall. The generous accommodation, extending to approximately 48sq m, needs some refurbishment works. This is a quality development adjacent to all local amenities, shops, schools and good public transport routes. This property attracted four interested parties who competed to acquire it. Bidding commenced at its reserve price of €195,000, and it sold for €235,000.

Lot 5 – No 103 Shannonvale, Old Cratloe Road, Co Limerick

Lot 5 was a three bed semidetached residence offering spacious accommodation in an established residential development. The property is currently tenanted and is generating a rental income of €921 per month. The accommodation comprises entrance hall, diner/living, kitchen, sitting room, utility, three bedrooms (master en suite ), and bathroom. There is off street parking to the front and a large garden to the rear. It is situated on the outskirts of Limerick city just off the Old Cratloe Road, close to Limerick Institute of Technology and Thomond Rugby Park. Two individuals registered interest and it was sold at the reserve price of €230,000.

Lot 6 – No 30 Blackwater Heights, Kells, Co Meath

No 30 Blackwater Heights is a three bed semidetached residence in need of upgrading and modernising, located within walking distance of Kells and all amenities. This is an ideal DIY project for those looking to put their own stamp on their starter home, or an excellent investment property due to its location. There is off street parking to the front along with a large side garden and large enclosed rear garden. It is situated just off the M3 motorway with an excellent bus network to and from Dublin city, and both Navan and Drogheda are within easy commuting distance. This property attracted two interested bidders who interchanged bits in increments of €5,000, and it was eventually sold for €229,000.

Lot 12 – Clondallon, Rathmullan, Co Donegal

Lot 12 offered a two storey detached residence situated on an elevated site overlooking the R247 to Letterkenny. This is a large, spacious four bedroom residence with sunroom to the side offering excellent views of the surrounding area.

Located in a scenic and tranquil area on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, Rathmullan is a seaside village on the western shore of Lough Swilly with beautiful beaches and walks. Clondallon attracted two interested bidders who competed to acquire the property. Following intense bidding it was eventually sold for €195,000.

This was the sixth of seven live stream auctions in 2023, and Colm O’Donnellan said they were delighted with the brilliant results and the number of properties that they obtained throughout Ireland to sell by auction.

O’Donnellan & Joyce will be offering a solely online auction, taking place on the O'Donnellan & Joyce website, on November 16 with eight properties going under the digital hammer.

The seventh and final live stream auction of the year is taking place on Wednesday, December 13 at noon, and it is anticipated that a substantial amount of property throughout Ireland will go under the hammer.
