Contract signed for construction of houses at Ballymoe

Galway County Council has signed a contract with Finna Construction Ltd. for the construction of eight houses at Durrow & Ballaghymurry, Ballymoe.

In conjunction with the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (DHLGH ), Galway County Council appointed a multi-disciplinary Design Team, led by Hassett Leyden Flynn Architects to assist with the delivery of this housing development.

Planning was granted in July 2022 and following a competitive tendering process for construction Finna Construction Ltd. were deemed the Most Economically Advantageous Tenderer.

The development consists of eight houses comprising two single storey two-bed houses, six two-storey two-bed houses and all ancillary site development works, including road enhancement works along the R360 Regional Road.

Cathaoirleach of Galway County Council Cllr. Liam Carroll, welcomed the signing of the contract, stating that it is great to see the Local Authority’s own build programme progressing to deliver new high-quality, energy efficient social housing across the county.

Liam Conneally, Chief Executive of Galway County Council told the Advertiser that he was delighted with the number of housing projects which are being delivered by the Council with the support of the Department of Housing Local Government and Heritage under ‘Housing for All.

“It is particularly exciting to see a wide range of projects which will provide much needed homes for people in many rural towns and villages.

Acknowledging the hard work and dedication of the housing staff, Director of Services for Housing and Ukrainian Response, Michael Owens stated that the provision of the eight new homes in Ballymoe was a further example of the commitment by the local authority to deliver high quality homes for families and individuals, in their local communities where people want to live and where they will help sustain our local schools, shops, clubs and services.

New housing developments are being provided and the delivery pipeline for housing will deliver 1,717 new homes in County Galway under Housing for All by 2026.

The overall value of the project is in excess of €1.6m and is funded under the Government’s ‘Housing for All’ Plan to 2030.’ Completion is expected in Autumn 2024.
