Minister of State at the Department of Finance, Jennifer Carroll McNeill TD, will be the keynote speaker at a networking event for business women taking place next Thursday June 29.

The event will focus on networking opportunities for female entrepreneurs based in East Galway and will be hosted in the Sliabh Aughty Centre, itself a longstanding success story of female entrepreneurship.

Minister Carroll McNeill has special responsibility for Credit Unions, Financial Services and Insurance. She will meet earlier in the day with local Credit Unions to hear of their plans to expand services to their customers and play a greater role in serving the financial needs of small businesses and local communities.

The networking and information event is being organised by Fine Gael TD Ciaran Cannon along with a group of local female entrepreneurs, with the aim of creating a new network of female entrepreneurs and making them aware of the supports available for the establishment and development of small businesses.

“I was approached by some local business women to see if we could get a network off the ground across East Galway. It’s an excellent idea and I was more than happy to help.

“My colleague Jennifer Carroll McNeill has a particular interest in female entrepreneurship, and in particular how Credit Unions can support women in business. I asked her if she would help us out by attending and she was more than happy to do so.

“I’m very grateful to Geraldine Bane, Elaine Conroy and Seberina Lyne who are working with me to make the event a success. Elaine and Seberina are operating a very successful cafe and restaurant at the Sliabh Aughty Centre and it made perfect sense to host the event there.

“The Sliabh Aughty Centre itself is the brainchild of Esther Zyderlaan, another extraordinary business woman, who has created one of Ireland’s most unique holiday locations in beautiful Kylebrack, just ten minutes from Loughrea town.

“Geraldine Bane has been the driving force behind some groundbreaking community and business initiatives in Loughrea town”, said Deputy Cannon.

“We have a really diverse community of female entrepreneurs across East Galway, operating in so many different sectors, and we thought it would be important to bring them together to see how we can support one another, learn from each other’s experiences, and become more aware of the kinds of supports that are available to us.

Naomh Breandan Credit Union, the Galway Local Enterprise Office and the Bia Innovator Campus have very kindly offered their support and will also be available at the event to offer advice and guidance”, said Geraldine Bane.

The event takes place at 7.30pm on Thursday June 29 at the Sliabh Aughty Centre H62DX77. Places are limited and can be booked by emailing [email protected] or by calling or messaging 0872529680.
