Larry Ovie, pastor of Faith Christian Fellowship, Galway, the first african church in Galway County is convening a 60 minutes charity walk against loneliness and depression on July 1 from Eyre Square to Faith Christian Church, Maragoni House, Ballybrit.

The determination to walk against loneliness/depression, was made because of the resultant adverse impact on mental health and well-being of Galwegians.

Loneliness and depression can affect anyone, regardless of age, background, or circumstances and regrettably, its effect is profound, leading to isolation, despair, sense of hopelessness and sometimes suicidal thoughts.

“Our aim is to rally the Galway communities to combat these silent adversaries and majorly to create awareness and build community action against loneliness and depression. This charity walk is more than just a fundraising event; it is a symbol of love, unity and support. It provides a platform for individuals to come together, share their stories, and raise awareness about the importance of mental well-being.

“By participating, people get the opportunities to show their commitment to breaking the silence surrounding mental health and fostering a compassionate environment because we believe the walk would serve as a lifeline for those struggling with loneliness and depression.

“Walking side by side with others who understand their challenges can provide a profound sense of belonging and support. The shared experience creates connections and support networks that extend beyond the event itself, ensuring that no one has to face their battles alone,” he said.

Participants get a lovely, stainless steel waterbottle, water and a T-shirts. Let us walk hand in hand, spreading compassion and understanding, as we strive for a world where no one battles loneliness and depression alone. You will no longer walk alone,” he added.
