New Toyota Prius on the way

Toyota Ireland is launching the fifth generation of the Prius in July. It will be available exclusively as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV ) and is priced from €45,900.

Toyota Ireland expects demand for the new Prius to be high, and is urging customers to contact their local dealers to get ahead of the surge.

The fifth generation Prius will be on show for the first time in Ireland at Bloom Festival in Dublin from 1st–5th June, just before it arrives in dealerships.

First launched in 1997, the Prius quickly became renowned as a sustainability game-changer, and to date has sold more than five million units globally.

From a design perspective, the new PHEV is a step up from the original Prius hybrid. With modern detailing down to an elegantly sloped rear, this new-look fifth-generation Prius is more streamlined.

Toyota says that it will feature an impressive 12.3” Toyota Smart Connect multimedia system, 19” alloys, a new 13.6 kWh lithium-ion battery and heated and ventilated driver and passenger seats.

The new model will be available in Ireland exclusively as a PHEV and Toyota says that it is capable of doing 71km in zero emissions mode after a single charge, according to the brand.

Toyota Ireland customers can now choose from a wide range of hybrid electrics (HEVs ) which it claims spend, on average, more than 50 per cent of the time in zero emissions mode, PHEVs (RAV4 and new Prius ) and the new BEV, the bZ4X.

I had the pleasure of being among the first few journalists outside Japan to drive the original Prius - that was in 1996-97 in Brussels.
