The Volkswagen brand has a new and ambitious target of 80 per cent fully electric vehicle sales in Europe by 2030.
Its latest model to unveil in camouflage near-production format was the ID.7. It is being referred to by the international media as the new Passat-sized electric saloon. And we can expect to see the full production-ready model unveiled later this month (March ).
In addition to the new ID.7, the first ID model, the ID.3 launched in 2019, has just been given a face-lift, and it also gets software upgrades.
Volkswagen will also launch an all-electric version of the Tiguan SUV in 2025. And watch out for the ID.1 and ID.2 (names to be confirmed ), two new entry-level electric cars, one a hatchback and the other a crossover.
This is according to the man who heads-up the VW brand’s new ‘mobility’ business, Thomas Ulbrich. This promise is a tough ask though. Last year, its fully electric car sales accounted for little more than 10 per cent of total Volkswagen passenger car sales.
Ulbrich has said the Volkswagen brand has a more ambitious target than any of the other VW Group brands, such as Audi, Skoda and Seat/Cupra.
The main focus to achieve its ambitious targets will be on European sales. The Volkswagen production lines free of interruption and its dealer networks across the continent will be key to the strong desire to succeed.
