Galway to ‘go all out’ with disability triathlon

A special pilot event to celebrate inclusive outdoor events in Galway takes place next Thursday (July 21 ).

A triathlon boasting 17 teams will take on the challenge of swimming, cycling and running in Kilcoran Clarinbridge as part of ‘Go All Out Week’ which runs from July 18 to 24. The week aims to promote and celebrate inclusive outdoor events and programmes in Ireland.

The triathlon will take place at the swimming pool in Kilcornan from 12 noon to 2pm with some 50 people supported by the Brothers of Charity Services in Galway and Roscommon.

The 17 teams will each boast a swimmer, cycler and runner - the swimmers will do lengths of the pool before passing over to their cyclist teammates, who will then complete a 3km cycle before passing over to their runner for a 1.5km run. Athletes will do a relay race and ‘high five’ to their teammates between each activity.

Prizes will be awarded to the teams, as well as individuals for their efforts, and each participant will receive a medal. T-shirts will also be provided to the teams in what is expected to be a colourful occasion.

This event will be run as a partnership between Galway Sports Partnership, Triathlon Ireland, Brothers of Charity Services Galway, and Healthy Galway.
