The team at the Nine Arch Musical Society Claregalway are still rightfully basking in the glory of their wondrous achievements at this years AIMS when they did the west proud by sweeping the board with five national awards for their superb production of Little Shop of Horrors.

Musical societies the length and breadth of the country know how difficult it is to conceive and rehearse a show, never mind stage it to the standards which this talented group have attained.

No doubt their appetite for their return to the stage has been whetted by the widespread appreciation of what they achieved — a collective pat on the back is deserved.

In particular, the highly sought-after award for “Best Overall Show 2022” was the one that gave them the most pleasure, comprising as it does all the elements of what makes a show a hit with the audiences, who are the ultimater judges.

Nine Arch won an amazing four other national Musical Theatre awards for, “Best Chorus”, “Best Choreographer” for Jay Molyneux, “Best Actress” for “Marilyn Bane, and “Best Musical Director” for Shane Farrell.

The huge success of the show was largely due to director Alan Greaney’s wonderful artistic vision, along with the combination of his very talented production team of Shane and Jay, and of course the talented, dedicated and hardworking cast. This was all achieved with the sheer determination of the committee led by Chairperson Annette Cavanagh to stage a show during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The award winning Nine Arch Musical Society has joined the ranks of other leading musical Societies in the West of Ireland, and joins the three other societies that have won “Best Overall Show” since the year 2000.

In addition to the awards, Nine Arch would like to recognise cast member Eoin Mullins who was awarded a two-year scholarship with The American College Dublin, Musical theatre Degree Course, in conjunction with AIMS to the value of €15k.

A fabulous weekend and celebration for all involved in Nine Arch Musical Society both on stage, and behind the scenes, and for all who have helped to make this possible since its formation in the year 2000.
