Nearly €370,000 for connected hubs in Galway

Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Hildegarde Naughton, has welcomed the announcement that €368.329.92 funding has been secured for connected hubs in Galway.

The funding was allocated by the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys.

The stated primary objective of connected hubs is to support and complement the development of the National Hub Network, which is a key action of the Rural Development Policy - Our Rural Future and the National Remote Working Strategy – Making Remote Work.

Minister Naughton said: “I very much welcome the announcement which will see improvements in various connected hubs throughout the city and county.

“This financial support will provide owners, operators and managers of existing remote working facilities with the opportunity to identify and develop their own solutions in order to support remote working.”

She also highlighted the benefits of remote working.“The pandemic showed us the benefits of remote working - reduced commutes, more time spent with your family, increased footfall in towns and a lower carbon footprint,” Minister Naughton adds.

“The connected hubs network provides the perfect opportunity for workers and employers to embrace a ‘blended working’ model, and to find the balance of hub, home and office working that suits them best.”

Services will improve according to Minister Naughton.“This is a positive development for those wishing to work remotely across Galway,” she says. “It will result in increased capacity and improved services.”

She concluded: “€14 million has been invested by Government in hubs across the country in the last two years and we are fully committed to further supports in the years ahead.”

Galway County Council - €127,779.33

Lackagh Museum and Heritage Centre - €70,932.07
