Fianna Fáil Councillor Alan Cheevers has welcomed news that a detailed report on Galway 2020 Capital of Culture will be made available to the public representatives of Galway City Council at the end of May and that the board will come in front of council on June 13 to answer questions.

“This is something I have called for a while,” he said. “Public representatives and the general public need to see in detail how the money allocated by businesses and taxpayers was spent.

“I believe we need see in detail how much was spent on severance pay on some of staff who left Galway 2020 employment over the time from its inception; as well as detail on expenses and also what was cost of cancelling the opening ceremony at SouthPark.

“This is vital information that the general public need to know. Galway 2020 has been left under a cloud and I believe that if they want any creditable legacy, these questions need to be answered in detailm” he concluded.
