Improve care for a family member who has Alzheimer’s

Do you have a family member who has Alzheimer’s or another type of dementia? Would you like to increase your knowledge of Alzheimer’s and other dementias, and to improve your care giving skills? If so, you might be interested in our education and training courses specially designed to support family carers.

We offer online and face-to-face training. These Family Carer Training programmes aim to develop family carers’ knowledge of Alzheimer’s and other dementias, and their caring skills, to enable them to respond more confidently to their family members’ needs. Family carers can either be the primary carers for the person with dementia or those indirectly involved in caring.

Delivered by The Alzheimer Society of Ireland’s experienced tutor team, the course will provide you with new information on dementia and give you time and space to reflect on your own caring experience, whilst listening to and learning from other carers’ experiences.

The courses are delivered in a warm, safe environment which run in venues across the country. Or if you prefer, our flexible award-winning Online course can be accessed from anywhere in Ireland. Topics include – Understanding Dementia, Communication, Personal Care, Safety in the Home, Changes in Behaviour, Food & Nutrition, the Caring Role.

Our next in-person course will be held in The Connacht Hotel, Dublin Road, Galway, H91 K5DD, Tuesdays 7.00pm – 9.30pm, from May 31 until July 5 2022 inclusive.
