Galway Cat Rescue (GCR ) is holding an in-store Cat Adoption Information Event at Petmania Galway on ‘Caturday’ April 30 from 12 to 4 pm, this bank holiday weekend.
Galway Cat Rescue has dozens of adorable cats and kittens waiting for their forever family and those interested in adopting a kitten or adult cat can come to Petmania to meet GCR volunteers and start the adoption process. Galway Cat Rescue will also have a fundraising raffle on the day.
Cats are Ireland’s second most popular pet, according to a survey conducted for Petmania Galway earlier in 2022. 40 per cent of the 437 respondents owned a cat. The pet store discovered that 51 per cent have a mature cat whilst just six per cent have a kitten.
This may be about to change, as we enter ‘kitten season’. Kitten season starts in the spring, peaking in the early summer months and ends in Autumn. Although Kittens can be born year-round, the vast majority are born during this time, making it the pur-fect time to host an adoption information event in store.
Petmania is celebrating all feline friends with a Cat Event throughout April with up to 30 per cent discount on popular cat essentials like bedding, toys and well-known nutrition brands like Felix, Purina One and Go Cat. Petmania is encouraging cat lovers to sign-up to its cat database to be in with the chance of winning one of 16 hampers of cat goodies, including a three-month supply of food from Felix, worth almost €300.
According to Olivia O’ Reilly of Galway Cat Rescue, they were busier than ever during lockdown, as people were working from home and so they noticed cats in need of TNR (trap, neuter, release ) or rescue more often.
“It was great that vets continued to accept cats for TNR and rescue care under the essential services provision which kept our volunteers busy! The Adoption Information Day on April 30 is really a celebration of the charity being back to some normality after two years of pandemic pandemonium. We are looking forward to meeting everyone in store at Petmania,” he said.
