Singleton looking forward to remainder of campaign

Chloe Singelton scored against DLR Waves in Saturday's FAI Cup quarter-final

Eight minutes remained in a tense FAI Cup quarter-final between Galway WFC and DLR Waves when Julie Ann Russell slid a gorgeous pass through to Chloe Singleton.

The Galway WFC substitute subsequently delivered with substance and style, making the Waves' net dance with a crisp finish from an acute angle.

Suddenly Galway’s season was alive with possibilities, a place in the last four booked by Stephen Lally’s improving team.

“It is a nice feeling, especially coming off the bench to prove a point,” Singleton says. “I could not have asked for a better performance from the team, it is a great one, it is a nice feeling.

“The league is obviously well out of sight for us, but the cup is our main aim now. All our heads are focused on that, if we really keep our heads screwed on, I think we will do well, there is a cup final waiting for us, a bit of silverware there for us.

“Credit to the girls, I think the experience we have in the squad is amazing, they are all doing a great job, especially in training. The older ones are pushing the younger ones on, including myself, pushing me on.

“The competition is insane in the squad, I didn't think Galway, the club would get to a stage where there actually is competition for places. It is amazing, it is good.”

Now Singleton wants Galway WFC to conclude the campaign with a flourish. “For myself being on the bench in a quarter-final was not a nice one, but to be put through into the semi-final, for Galway we are definitely making moves,” she adds. “I think it will be a good match, whoever we get, we will put it up to them.

“It is five weeks, that is our main aim. Every league game is important, we want to gather up as many league points as we possibly can towards the end of the season.

“The main aim is the cup, I think the next five weeks is very important for us, to get our heads screwed on, there is something there for us, definitely.”
