Galway actor Nicola Coughlan, best known for her roles in Derry Girls and Bridgerton, has been nominated for the IFTA Rising Star 2021 award.
Nicola, who is originally from Oranmore, came to prominence as Clare Devlin on Channel 4’s hit comedy show Derry Girls. She currently plays Penelope Featherington on the Netflix period drama Bridgerton. She has been nominated for the IFTA award alongside writer/directors Cathy Brady and Paddy Slattery, and actors Clare Dunne and Eve Hewson.
“It’s such a huge honour to be nominated for the IFTA Rising Star Award, especially during a time when Irish talent is rightfully having a moment on the world stage,” said Nicola. “This means the absolute world to me and I couldn’t be more grateful and excited!”
Nicola is currently filming season two of Bridgerton in London. The show has already been renewed for a third and fourth season.
The Irish Film & Television Academy awards will be broadcast on Virgin Media One, this Sunday July 4 at 10pm.
