Easing of Covid restrictions a boost for confidence of business and society, says Ibec

Ibec, the group that represents Irish business, has said that announcement from Government of the further easing of Covid restrictions is a boost to the confidence of both business and society.

Ibec CEO Danny McCoy said this evening’s announcement is a positive reflection of the successful rollout of the vaccination programme across Ireland in recent months.

“It provides hope for many businesses, particularly those operating within the Experience Economy, of a gradual return to recovery following an extremely difficult year. Until such a time that businesses are back operating at pre-covid levels, continued financial supports will be needed to enable vulnerable firms to operate.

“Moving forward both employers and employees still need crisper timelines for proportionate office reopening beginning late June. Appropriate caution, not an abundance of it, is required with new more transmissible variants that requires greater agility using serial testing into the Winter months. “Return to safe, digitally certified international travel across Europe is also critical for the long-term, sustainable recovery of the national economy,” added Mr McCoy.

The business community hopes that the ongoing Government review of Covid restrictions will continue to balance the risks from new variants and the necessary full reopening of the Irish economy,” he concluded.
