Twenty-two staff from St Anthony’s & Claddagh Credit Union are setting off on a virtual challenge to walk up and down the length of Ireland over the coming weeks — a distance of 2,000km — all to fundraise money to upgrade the playground in St. Bernadette’s Children’s Unit in University Hospital Galway. Can you help them reach their fundraising target of €2,000, a euro per kilometre?
Previously, the staff in St. Anthony’s Credit Union helped fundraise to install the existing playground and are now hoping to raise enough money to add more items so children of all abilities have an outdoor space to enjoy when they have to be in hospital for any reason.
“We have 22 eager staff taking part in our Virtual Challenge which commenced on May 10. We have previously climbed Croagh Patrick, rowed rowing machines on the Prom and jumped from airplanes to fundraise for the current playground. We are proud to take part in this new challenge to upgrade the playground again which is such an important space in the paediatric unit,” said Lisa Stewart of St. Anthony’s & Claddagh Credit Union.
“At some point or other, each of us have had our own children or known children that have had to attend the paediatric unit and we are happy to be able to support the unit and staff in return again,” she said.
Anne Matthews, Clinical Nurse Manager of the Paediatric Unit said – “We are delighted with the ongoing support from St Anthony’s & Claddagh Credit Union over the last number of years and are excited to see what will come from our next fundraising challenge. Our staff have already seen what a huge benefit the outdoor area and playground is for our patients and their families.”
