Two wards closed at UHG due to Covid outbreak

Two wards at the west’s biggest hospital remain closed to new admissions this week due to an outbreak of Covid-19.

Hospital authorities at UHG have managed a number of such outbreaks (two or more cases ) in the last number of months.

They stated earlier this week that there were “a number” of confirmed cases of the virus and because of this the two wards would not be accepting new admissions.

“The hospital is following the national public health guidance in relation to the management of suspect cases, confirmed cases, and close contacts,” a statement from the hospital outlined.

It went on to say that testing and contact tracing of both staff and patients has been carried out to protect public health and that the hospital continues to keep the affected patients and families updated.

Visiting restrictions are still in place at the hospital and management is asking people not to visit the hospital except on compassionate grounds. Such visits should be arranged in advance with the ward’s nurse manager

Patients attending the hospital for appointments are requested to follow all public health guidelines including wearing a face mask.

“We also remind patients to attend their appointments alone unless the support of another person is essential..
