An Mheitheal Rothar’s innovative ReCycle Your Cycle initiative has been shortlisted by Materials Recycling World for two prestigious recycling awards: Circular Economy Initiative and Team of the Year.

ReCycle Your Cycle takes bikes sent for scrap to Galway City Council’s Civic Amenities Centre and repairs them for sale at affordable prices. At the same time, the bikes are used to teach valuable cycle mechanic skills to trainees on the Tús scheme.

“It’s great to see ReCycle Your Cycle being recognised in this way. We believe the circular economy will be more important than ever as Ireland moves towards a post-Covid future. At the moment we’re selling the recycled bikes at our pop up shop at Unit 21-22 at the Galway Shopping Centre on the Headford Road. We’re a not for profit run on Cooperative principles, and the funds raised by selling the bikes support our community work.” said Lead Coordinator Paul O’Donnell.

Winners of the MRW awards will be announced at an event in London on 15 December.
