O’Donnellan & Joyce auctioneers hosted its second auction of the year on Thursday April 19. There was close to 40 properties going up for auction in the Harbour Hotel, with properties for sale all across the counties of the Wild Atlantic Way and the auction room was packed to capacity. There was huge interest for a number of properties with sale prices going for above reserves.

Colm O’Donnellan of O’Donnellan & Joyce said: “It was a day for buyers with some excellent properties going under the hammer including family homes and some very prominent investment properties.” The highlights of the properties sold were as follows.

No 127 Corrib Park, Newcastle, Galway

One of the highlights of the April auction and first to go under the hammer on Thursday, No 127 Corrib Park is a three bedroom terraced residence located within walking distance of NUIG, UHG, and Galway city centre. The property is close to a host of sporting and recreational facilities and came to the market with an AMV of €225,000. After a number of bidders chasing the property, it finally sold after 15 bids for €280,000.

No 6 Moyola Park, Newcastle, Galway

Another gem in the O’Donnellan & Joyce catalogue, this large detached residence on a substantial site is located in a popular residential area in Newcastle. Moyola Park is on the doorstep of NUIG, is well serviced by local amenities and close to Galway city centre. Built circa 1969, this was the first time that this house had come on the market for sale. The property was withdrawn from the auction at €370,000 and sold afterwards for €395,000.

Rosshill Road, Roscam, Galway

A cottage style bungalow in need of refurbishment and modernisation, the location of Rosshill Road is second to none. Located at the edge Galway city, Rosshill Road is an idyllic residential location. The true selling point for this property was the land included on offer. The property sits on approximately 1.76 hectares/4.3 acres with views towards the bay, while an additional 0.33 hectare/0.8 acre is situated separately nearby on the foreshore. With two bidders pursuing the property, the hammer dropped at €450,000.

In addition, the property is a leisurely stroll to Silverstrand and Barna village. The property sold at the asking price for €300,000.

Lands at Drimcong, Moycullen, Co Galway

Circa 4.79 acres of land situated just off the N59, only 1.7km from Moycullen village. Possibly offers potential for development (subject to planning ). The AMV was €50,000 and after 19 bids from numerous individuals in the room, it sold for €86,000.

No 41 Cluain Mor, Clybaun Road, Knocknacarra, Galway

This three bedroom semidetached residence, divided into two self-contained one bed apartments, was guiding €170,000. Bidding opened at €160,000 and sold for €193,000 after nine different bids.

No 2 Abbey Court, Abbey Street, Loughrea, Co Galway

Located in the centre of Loughrea town, this three bedroom semidetached residence had an AMV of €90,000 and sold for €110,000.

No 3 River Crest, Sun Street, Tuam, Co Galway

A three bedroom first floor apartment situated within walking distance of Tuam town centre came to the market with an AMV of €60,000. Bidding opened at €52,000 and after 11 bids in the room, the property sold for €65,000.

Highlights of property sales outside Galway included the following.

No 41 Greenhills, Ballinameen, Boyle, Co Roscommon

Semidetached four bedroom residence situated in the heart of Ballinameen village, close to a church, national school, GAA pitch, and all local amenities. It is just 10km from Boyle town centre and 14km from Carrick on Shannon. With off street parking to the front and a garden to the rear, it was guiding €70,000 and sold for €76,000.

No 2 Cooga, Cabragh, Rathlee, Easkey, Co Sligo

Semidetached bungalow set in a rural location only 2km from the coast. It was guiding €35,000 and sold in the room for €40,000.

No 80 The Curragh, Castlebar, Co Mayo

Detached six bedroom residence divided into two apartments and one office. The ground floor apartment had four bedrooms. This property is located in a well-established residential area of Castlebar town and within walking distance of the town centre and all amenities. It came to the market with an AMV of €130,000 and sold for the asking price.

No 81 The Curragh, Castlebar, Co Mayo

Detached residence divided into four two-bedroom apartments, three of the apartments are currently rented and were being sold with tenants in place. Guiding at €130,000, it also sold for its guide price.

Upper Main Street, Ballyhaunis, Co Mayo

Terraced property located in Ballyhaunis, easily accessible for both Claremorris and Castlerea. This is a two bedroom terraced residence in need of some upgrading and modernising. It sold for €48,000.
